Harmony

Recent research has demonstrated that Antwerp’s cathedral is longer than has always been assumed. The distance between the eastern and western end is not 119 metres, but 123 metres. This is not a random detail. The cathedral’s magnificent tower is 123 m tall. Meaning the cathedral length and height are identical.

This is not a coincidence in a Gothic edifice. Proportionality was a fundamental principle of this style, which originated in the 12th c. in France. It is the manifestation of an essential characteristic, namely harmony, of the Biblical God, whose house is in this building.

Chaos becomes cosmos in consonance, and heaven intersects with earth. If you want to experience a Gothic church as it was intended, then you must undergo the effect of its spatial harmony.
